Ethos
Our Vision
Our vision is to enable our students to avail of the highest quality educational experiences and to maximise their outcomes.
CBS Secondary School Kilkenny is a Catholic school in the tradition of Blessed Edmund Rice, committed to the development of each student’s gifts in a Christian community with due emphasis on:
● Intellectual Endeavour
● Sporting Excellence
● Social Development
● Cultural Development
● Spiritual Growth
These enhance the growth of the full person and develop self-esteem and self-confidence, while also emphasising our duty of care for others, particularly the weak, vulnerable and underprivileged in society.
Our Philosophy
A Christian concern for others is fostered through advocacy programs, charitable initiatives, active involvement with community organisations, liturgical celebrations and links with the international family of Edmund Rice schools through our Edmund Rice Education Beyond Borders (EREBB) programme
We welcome and celebrate diversity, emphasise Christian values and encourage all students to become actively involved in a variety of extra-curricular activities.
The enthusiastic participation of our staff members in the extra-curricular life of the school is a hallmark of our school community and ensures that a wide range of sporting and cultural activities are promoted.
Our Approach
We encourage our students to challenge themselves, develop leadership skills and grow through participation in activities such as: European educational trips, advocacy programmes, choir and music, debating, sports, work experience, enterprise initiatives, charitable fundraising and Gaisce.
While the pursuit of excellence is encouraged, the dominant emphasis is on broad participation, personal development and genuine enjoyment.
Our Culture
CBS Secondary School Kilkenny is an inclusive school where the contribution of every student is encouraged and valued. We educate our students to value and respect differences, to empathise and engage with the needs of others and to be ready to make a positive contribution to the world as CBS Secondary School Kilkenny boys and men.
