TY Local History Trip – Friary Street Ambush

TY Local History students explored the site of the 1921 Friary Street Ambush after watching a documentary and analysing key events. They located the monument marking this tragic event, where two IRA Volunteers and a civilian, Thomas Dollard, were killed during Ireland’s War of Independence. Students reflected on the impact of the ambush and how history is remembered in Kilkenny today.
